Most of us love a good ol’ spring cleaning. But what about winter cleaning?
The change of seasons is the perfect time to declutter your wardrobe. In fact, winter cleaning might be more important than spring cleaning as far as charitable donations are concerned. This past weekend, the temperatures dropped to the low 30s and I couldn’t help but think of the less fortunate. There are numerous national and local organizations that are in need of warm weather clothing, shoes and accessories such as hats and scarves.
As you go through your wardrobe, ask yourself:
- Do I want this?
- Does this fit?
- Will I wear this?
Often, it is difficult to donate clothing and shoes because of the financial tie – remembering what you paid or how much something is worth. But if items no longer fit or will never be worn again, not only are they taking up space in your closet, they are also being wasted. Consider consignment and whatever you don’t consign, donate. Whenever I am donating clothing, I often say, “I don’t need this, but there is someone who does. And I hope they receive this.” Remind yourself how blessed and fortunate you are to be in a position to give.
